Visiting The Arts on Belmar District

Colorado has long been known for its beautiful views and exciting outdoor activities, especially when it comes to skiing and snowboarding in the winter. But many people do not realize that it also has a thriving artistic community. One of the vibrant artistic districts is Arts on Belmar, located in Lakewood, Colorado. This area, which is bound between West Virginia Avenue and West Almeda Avenue, is one of the newest and hottest locations within driving distance from Downtown Denver.

An Overview of the Belmar District

The Belmar District constitutes more than 20 square blocks of outdoor shops, restaurants, cafes, and art galleries. These locations include more than 80 stores and restaurants, with nationally recognized stores, as well as quaint local shops and bistros.

In addition, the arts community includes 8 art galleries covering a wide range of styles and mediums. The district serves as home to the Music on the Plaza series, which offers a variety of concerts from classical to jazz. This summer, they even hosted a Prince tribute band!

When it comes to supporting the local community, Belmar is home to the Festival Italiano, a two-day celebration of Italian heritage with plenty of food, drink, and live music. This festival brought in over 110,000 people last year and is featured every September. And if you still want to be a little active when you are done checking out the art galleries, there is ice skating available at The Rink at Belmar.

The Arts

The best way to check out the array of artistic works that are on tap in Belmar is to visit them on the first Friday of each month. Their First Friday activities are held from 5-9:30 PM and feature an art walk and studio tours.

You can look at the different styles available, make purchases to liven up your home, or even spend some time talking to the artists, finding out more about their works. Some even offer workshops you can take to create your own art.
The district currently includes the following galleries and artists:

Valkarie Gallery,    Main Gallery
Melissa Behr Art,   Studios A and B
INk Jewelry,              Studio C
Julie Havel,                Studio D
